The Weeknd, whose original name is Abel Tesfaye praised South Korean band BLACKPINK's icon Jennie  for her role in The Idol.

In an interview with Apple Music 1’s Zane Lowe, The Weeknd said, “It’s important that we got someone like Jennie who understands this world.” 

The Die for You singer further continued, “a lot of these musicians, like myself, are non-actors, and we all understand the world. … We’re all tapping into a place. And I think Jennie does it incredibly well on the show. I’m really proud of her.”

HBO's upcoming series The Idol is co-created by Canadian singer The Weeknd and Euphoria's creator Sam Levinson.

The series is slated to release on the streaming giant on June 4, 2023, the star-studded cast includes Lily Rose-Depp, The Weeknd, Troye Sivan, Moses Sumney, Dan Levy and Jennie Ruby Jane. 

BLACKPINK's Jennie is the only woman among the cast of the controversial show with a legitimate pop music career. The Idol also marks Jennie’s acting debut.
