A documentary, Bread and Roses, co-produced by Jennifer Lawrence premiered at the Cannes Film Festival 2023. 

The narrative revolved around the lives of three ladies living under Taliban rule after they protested against the coup.

Produced by Lawrence, the short film featured under the banner of Excellent Cadaver, a production company set up by the actress and her producer friend Justine Ciarrocchi.

In a chat with Hollywood Reporter, Ciarrocchi said, "jen’s first response was to find an Afghan film-maker and give them a platform."

The director Sahra Mani also stated details about the show and his role at the premiere, "this film has a message from women in Afghanistan, a soft message: please be their voice who are voiceless under Taliban dictatorship."

She then adds, "now that women can no longer leave the house without the veil, I thought we should tell their stories." 

"Filming the documentary was difficult and the safety of those involved was a top priority."

"The way in which their lives have changed under the Taliban is an everyday reality for us. It’s life under a dictatorship, a cruel reality we cannot ignore," concluded  Mani.
