Legendary actor Johnny Depp walked down the red carpet of the Cannes Film Festival on May 16 for the premiere of French drama Jeanne Du Barry where he received a seven-minute long standing ovation in the theatre despite being trolled for his appearance.

A video has been circulating on social media where Depp can be seen bursting into tears on receiving a huge round of applause for his performance in the drama as King Louis XV.

He went all teary-eyed and also waved out audience from inside the Grand Theatre Lumiere’s balcony.

Cannes 2023 marks as the first public appearance of the Pirates of the Caribbean actor after his extremely publicized defamation case with ex-wife Amber Heard.

However, the jury favoured Depp in the case, Heard’s friends still troll him and disregard him.

Amid his red carpet appearance, there were a lot of fans who screamed out in support and also asked for autographs from the 59-year-old actor. At the same time, there were many who did not really like his appearance at the Cannes Film Festival.

Cannes director Thierry Frémaux came out in support of Depp and decided to open the festival with his drama Jeanne Du Barry, reports Page Six.
