Oscar 2023: Academy executive on Chris Rock's scathing Netflix special
Chris Rock addressed the infamous moment of slap at last year’s Academy Awards in his stand-up Netflix special

The Academy’s chief executive Bill Kramer has talked about the critical comments of Chris Rock which he made in his latest Netflix special, Selective Outrage.
In the stand-up, the comedian addressed the infamous moment of being slapped by Will Smith at the last year’s Oscars stage.
Speaking to Deadline, Kramer said that we have to be 'better prepared' to deal with unanticipated incident at Sunday’s show.
He further said: “I think what’s important for us is that we’re moving forward."
“At the Nominees Luncheon... Janet Yang very clearly owned that we, as an Academy, have to be better prepared and have to be much nimbler and clearer in our response to things," Kramer added.
“I really want to focus on that. I think it’s great that Chris spoke his truth. I can’t speak to the timing of that, but we are ready to move forward,” Oscar executive concluded.
The 2023 Oscar is going to take place today, 12 March, in Los Angeles.
