A Melbourne waitress received a whopping amount of $10,000 in tip from a mystery customer on Saturday.

After collecting a $10,000 tip from a possible billionaire client – a Melbourne server was brought to tears. 

The unidentified diner enjoyed a meal at Gilson in South Yarra with a number of friends before adding a substantial tip to the bill and giving Lauren the receipt. He is a self-made young businessman who reportedly has property worth more than $120 million. 

The customer said he would only leave the tip if Lauren received 70% of it, telling her to keep $7000 for herself and divide the rest with her coworkers. 

Lauren informed the group that the restaurant divides tips among the staff, but the man paying said he would only leave the tip if Lauren received 70% of it. 

"I keep going over and over in my head the actual experience of it happening second by second … (it) was surreal and amazing,” the university student told media. 

Lauren said she thought she must have misheard the customer, so asked him to repeat the amount he wanted to tip, and said she wasn’t even sure she could accept such a large tip, calling the manager over to double-check. 

Gilson’s is a trendy Italian restaurant frequented by influencers and reality TV stars.
