'Shotgun Wedding' review: Jennifer Lopez and Jennifer Coolidge deliver credible performances

Shotgun Wedding - a silly comedy with a few funny moments, contains a number of wedding jokes that will make you laugh and wonder at the same time.

Even though there are few redeeming qualities in this slapstick comedy, it's difficult to dislike it. There are many bizarre situations that make you wonder what is going on, while the one-liners make you laugh.

Shotgun Wedding keeps viewers engaged:

Despite the film's poor writing, Jennifer Lopez and Jennifer Coolidge deliver credible performances that bring the story to life. Sometimes you wonder why the studio approved this film with such dull writing. Shotgun Wedding is a rom-com that tries too hard to keep viewers interested in what's going on around them, but the uninteresting writing eventually gets in the way.

Plot:

Darcy and Tom's friends and family have gathered on a remote island in the Philippines for their destination wedding. Those gathered are essentially a collection of eccentric people, each with their own quirks. Darcy's millionaire father is there, as is her lover, and they engage in open PDA in front of her ex-wife.

The parents in Tom's family are the same way; they live together but each has their own set of rules. Sea pirates take over the venue and imprison the guests just as Tom and Darcy are about to split up over Sean, Darcy's ex-boyfriend who has been invited to the wedding by Darcy's father. Tom and Darcy must now ensure that everyone in the room is safe.

Jennifer Lopez and Jennifer Coolidge steal the show:

Jennifer Lopez's and Jennifer Coolidge's sparkling comedic performances, who unquestionably steal the show in the film, give this drab action comedy its moments.

Jennifer Lopez gives the film an authentic appeal and portrays a stressed-out Darcy realistically. She will undoubtedly attract followers with her insane antics, which she performs without regard for the consequences.

The portrayal of a failing baseball player by Josh Duhamel adds to the charm. The film's supporting cast, on the other hand, is what distinguishes it. Jennifer Coolidge is hilarious as Tom's mother, and her one-liners will make you laugh out loud.

Look for scenes in which she engages the pirates or draws a gun to defend the passengers from the hijackers. Cheech Marin, who plays Darcy's Spanish father, and Sonia Brags, who plays Darcy's mother, are both endearing.

What we think?

Shotgun Wedding could have easily been a thrilling experience if the script's nuances had been given more attention. The sea pirates lack menace, have a cartoonish appearance, and are powerless to influence the events.

The performances of the supporting cast save the film. A lot was expected of a film whose executive producers were Ryan Reynolds and Jennifer Lopez.
